We have an immediate need for a Quality Engineer located at our R&D and Manufacturing facility in Concord CA. The Concord location of Cobham Satcom is the home of SeaTel Maritime and Land Antennas. This facility develops and manufactures motion stabilized antennas that range in size from 0.6 m to 6 m. Our antennas are installed around the world.

The successful incumbent must be a US Person and will be responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance, and improvement of quality assurance processes. Throughout the implementation and maintenance process, this candidate should use data analysis to better understand quality reporting measures and improve processes.
BASIC ROLE DESCRIPTION Quality Engineer will perform quality engineering tasks and deliverables related to in-house electro-mechanical assembly as well as support of fabricated mechanical parts made by suppliers of Cobham SATCOM. Quality Engineer will focus on driving deep understanding of Root Causes and corrective actions within Cobham and with key suppliers. The Quality Engineer will work closely with the supplier manufacturing facilities responsible for manufacturing parts for Cobham SATCOM. The focus will be on improving manufacturing processes to produce quality products that meet all specifications efficiently. The Engineer will provide guidance to Supply Chain on new part supplier selection based upon manufacturing capabilities and performance.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conduct quality related investigations of Mechanical assembly of manufacturing processes utilizing quality problem solving techniques and advanced statistical techniques such as Lean manufacturing and advanced quality methodology to optimize product performance and reduce process variation. • Extensive experience improving metal fabrication, machining, composites, painting and plating processes related to technologies and suppliers. • Work extensively and train factory workers on manufacturing processes which improve quality product output. • Research and issue Corrective Action Preventative Action (CAPA) tasks to suppliers to address internal and external quality manufacturing issues. Ensure the root cause(s) are determined properly and verify corrective actions are complete. • Partner with Engineering to develop and initiate methods for inspection, testing, process control and evaluation for mechanical assembly of new products. Some of the specific activities include first article inspection plan development (FAI), as well as MRB representative for nonconforming parts. • Partner with Supply Chain group to find and qualify suppliers of mechanical components for new and existing products. • Perform Internal audits to support ISO9001. • Perform supplier audits/qualifications using PPAP methodology. • Performs other tasks as required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering • At least 5 years of experience in a technical manufacturing environment as a Quality Engineer or Mechanical Engineer • LANGUAGE ABILITY: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from of managers, customers, and co-workers. • MATH ABILITY: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent. • REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. • TECHNICAL SKILLS: A thorough understanding of quality control processes, tools, and inspection techniques such as SPC, DOE, Gage R&R studies, root cause analysis, auditing skills, etc. Additionally, good judgment and initiative are required in resolving problems and making recommendations. Good understanding of ISO 9001 standards and requirements. Good working knowledge of GD&T, FMEA, and component reliability qualification techniques a plus. • COMPUTER SKILLS: Intermediate/advanced level knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Access. Previous experience with MRP systems preferred. • CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES: ASQ certified quality engineer and/or quality auditor preferred. • EQUIPMENT AND DEVICE OPERATION: Ability to run a CMM preferred.
