Mechanical Engineer Our Concord R&D Team is seeking a dedicated Mechanical Engineer to play a pivotal role in the design, integration, and testing of mechanical components and systems. This position is essential for ensuring that our mechanical solutions work harmoniously with various software and electronic systems, allowing Cobham Satcom to leverage the full potential of our technology stack and deliver robust, efficient, and secure solutions.
We are looking for a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to support the development and validation of satellite communications antenna systems and subsystems. This role is integral to a cross-functional engineering team focused on creating comprehensive mechanical designs for satellite ground terminals. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise in mechanical design, system integration, and testing, coupled with a collaborative mindset that fosters effective communication and teamwork across various engineering disciplines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Mechanical Design: Develop and optimize mechanical designs for satellite communications antenna systems, ensuring they meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability requirements.
- Integration and Testing: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mechanical components with electrical and RF systems, and lead testing efforts to validate performance and functionality.
- Documentation: Create and maintain detailed design documentation, including specifications, drawings, and test plans, ensuring compliance with internal standards and customer requirements.
- Prototype Development: Design and oversee the fabrication of prototypes, conducting hands-on testing to evaluate mechanical performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Collaboration: Work closely with electrical, RF, and systems engineers to define and refine system requirements and interfaces, fostering a multidisciplinary approach to product development.
- Problem Solving: Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues that arise during integration and testing, applying engineering principles and best practices.
- Compliance and Standards: Ensure that all mechanical designs adhere to industry standards and regulatory requirements, maintaining a focus on safety and quality.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Interface with both internal and external stakeholders to provide updates on design progress, technical findings, and risk assessments, ensuring alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
As our Mechanical Engineer at Cobham Satcom, your qualifications should ideally be:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- 3+ years of relevant experience in mechanical design and engineering, preferably in the aerospace or satellite communications sectors.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and experience with FEA tools for structural analysis.
- Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with satellite communication protocols and antenna design principles is a plus.
- Excellent communication, technical writing, and problem-solving skills.

We offer Salary range: $95,000-115,000 USD depending on experience
This is a full-time position, and the role is based at the Cobham Satcom site in Concord, California. Eligibility requires being either a US Citizen or a Permanent Resident of the US.
